Neurosurgery Appeal
Temple Street is asking you to help support children with serious brain and spinal conditions through our Neurosurgery Appeal.
Paediatric neurosurgery deals with patients suffering from diseases or injuries of the brain or spine. These include patients with brain tumours, brain haemorrhage and spinal malformations or injuries as well as the treatment of some forms of cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
Temple Street Children's University Hospital is responsible for carrying out all Neurosurgery on neo-natal babies and children up to the age of 6 in Ireland. This also includes the removal of brain tumours in children under 6.
Until early 2009 these surgeries were carried out in an adult hospital. This proved less than ideal for children and parents as often further complications could lead to the movement of the patient between hospitals. These children can now be treated in a dedicated paediatric environment reducing unnecessary stress on the patient and aiding their recovery.
Due to the nature and complexity of these surgeries we need to invest in purchasing new equipment for our Theatres.
With your support we can purchase vital neurosurgical equipment to ensure our patients receive the best possible standard of care.
