Cystic Fibrosis and Respiratory Out-Patient Unit - €2.7 million

  • Our previous building project was the development of a new dedicated Cystic Fibrosis and Respiratory Out-Patient Unit at Temple Street in accordance with international infection guidelines. This unit was successfully opened in 2010.
  • Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common, life threatening, and recessively inherited disease in Ireland with an average national yearly incidence of 1 in 1500 live births and a carrier rate of 1 in 20 people in Ireland.
  • CF affects many organs in the body causing most problems in the liver, lungs, intestines and pancreas. Following advances in treatment, CF patients are surviving into their late twenties. There is an urgent necessity for this facility in the hospital as Children with CF need to be segregated from each other so that they do not contaminate each other with the bacteria they grow in their phlegm.
  • The cost of this project came in at just over €3 million and this was all made possible through our wonderful supporters.
