Intensive Care Unit
Our Main fundraising Project in 2005/2006 was the redevelopment of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). It was the biggest project undertaken by the Fundraising Office to date and thanks to all our generous supporters we raised in excess of €2.5m for this worthy cause.
The unit was officially opened in December in 2006 and in February 2007 the ICU was relocated from the old ICU which comprised of a 9 bed unit of 143sq metres in size to a new purpose built unit of 400 sq metres which is now fully occupied and operational providing specialised care and management for infants and children with a wide variety of surgical and medical conditions.
The unit admits approximately 450 patients per year with 70% coming directly from within the hospital and 30% external referrals from other centres. We also provide a twenty four-hour on-call advice service to hospitals around the country.
